Cybercrime is an apparent novelty of the routine activities theory phenomenon (Yar, 2005). The routine activities theory states that users are at fault for improperly, or not at all, protecting their information from online predators. The actuality of the scenario is that they are cohesive of each other in that people commit cybercrime because of this careless use of the internet. Researchers argue that simple education or availability of cyber protection can help to curtail the “novelty of cybercrime”.
